Meant to Be

Matthew 5:48

I know I can’t tell you what I feel
     And who I am because of this fear
          I keep inside me that you might hide.
So I keep it hidden and out of sight
     From your eyes and from mine
          Because I know that if you run, I might run too.

There is more to me than you maybe see.
I am not as weak as I know you’d like to think.
Despite these pains and scars I have come so far
And you don’t really know who I truly am
and who I’m meant to be.

I know I can’t fake it anymore
Because this light inside of me grows
    and I won’t let you put it out.
But I sit here cryin’ and all alone
     And I wonder if you’d really known
          Would you have tried to pull me down?

I don’t expect you to understand.
I always knew you’d let go of my hand.
(I wish it didn’t end this way.)
But the worth of my life pulls too strong
To ever fall into your arms.

There is more to me than you maybe see.
I am not as weak as I know you always think.

And you could never know who I truly am
and who I’m meant to be.

And now that you’re gone
I can finally see who I really am,
Who I’m meant to be.
